Today I’m sharing 8 tips for stunning wedding ceremony photos! Your wedding ceremony is one of the most emotional and meaningful parts of the day, and it deserves to be captured beautifully. From lighting to layout, here’s how to make sure your photos tell the story just as powerfully as the moment felt.
1. Prioritize good lighting
Aim for natural light. Outdoor ceremonies? Avoid harsh midday sun if you can.
Indoors? Check the lighting situation ahead of time. Overhead fluorescents aren’t flattering. Windows, string lights, or candles add warmth and depth.
Soft, even light = no squinting and less harsh shadows.
2. Go Unplugged
Ask guests to put phones and cameras away. This avoids blocked shots and lets everyone stay present.
A tech-free ceremony keeps the focus on real emotions, not screens.
3. Allow Movement for the Photographer
Discuss ceremony layout in advance. Ensure there’s room for subtle movement down the aisle and around the altar, and especially on the sides.
If possible, allow access to the back or side for multiple angles. Indoor spaces can be tricky to get side views if guest chairs go up to the side of the wall, not allowing me to pass by easily and discreetly.
4. Work with the Officiant
Stand 2-3 feet from your officiant. It keeps them from photobombing your sentimental hugs and handoffs.
Ask them to step to the side during your first kiss. This makes those shots cleaner and more focused.
5. Pause for the Photo Moments
Don’t rush the ring exchange, reciting your vows, or kiss. A 2-second pause makes a world of difference.
Smile at each other, take it in, and let me capture the magic.
6. Remember to face each other
This allows me to capture your reactions, the laughter, the tears, the emotions.
7. Posture Matters
Stand tall, relax your shoulders, and slightly angle toward each other.
Avoid facing directly forward the entire time. Side profiles create more emotional images.
8. Recessional: Slow It Down
Walk slowly, hold hands, smile wide. This is your just-married moment!
If you are pausing for a kiss, take your time and hold it for a few seconds.
The joyful exit is one of the most iconic photos of the day. Make it count.
