From the Bride + Groom | Engagement Session Advice

The engagement session between you and your fiance is extremely beneficial leading up to your wedding day. My job during your engagement session is to help you two relax, have fun, and enjoy all those extra close cuddles. This session is much more than just taking beautiful photos for your “Save the Dates”, newspaper announcement, or living room hangings. The engagement session helps prepare you two to be comfortable in front of my camera on your wedding day, and to get you more acquainted with how I work. To give you some input on the session, I asked my past couples to share their tips or advice going into an engagement session!

Engagement Session tips & advice from brides and grooms Northern Virginia Photographer Ryan + Martine

M: I just kept telling myself it was fine because I was with Ryan.  I think if I had to take pictures by myself, I’d have trouble relaxing.  Ultimately, though, I just had to get over myself! Once I realized it wasn’t that big of a deal, it was a lot of fun.
R: Try to make each other laugh. It’s a really fun experience when you’re both happy and laughing.

Alicia + Antoine –

Alicia: Wear outfits you’re comfortable in. The easiest way too look uncomfortable in a photo is to BE physically uncomfortable! Practice a few smiles and expressions in the mirror. Cover blemishes with a little skin tone concealer blended into the skin. It’s easy to be self conscious on photo shoot day with a zit in the middle of your beautiful face!

Antoine: Have fun! Our engagement shoot flew by because I kept making jokes and playing games with my soon to be wife.

 Karen + Matt:
K: Just try to be as natural as possible. Don’t be too focused with trying to look good because as long as you act naturally with your partner, the photographer would be able to capture those sweet moments. I think it’s with the photographer too. A photographer is good if she/he can make you comfortable during the whole session.
M: Be opened minded and be ready to step outside your comfort zone. And it’s one of the first steps to show your fiance that you truly care.
