Alex and Kevin’s wedding at Hayes Hollow Hidden Falls was filled with celebration, culture, tear filled speeches, and a poppin dance floor! I first met Alex and Kevin during an Open House at another wedding venue, just ONE DAY after Kevin proposed! They knew exactly what they wanted and didn’t waste any time planning the biggest day of their lives. Since they were long distance, they knew they had to start their planning process as soon as possible.
Read below to learn more about their love story, and how their day unfolded in their words!
Their Experience
How did you two meet? It took two swipes on Hinge and 4 months of missed connections for Kevin and Alex to meet. Unbeknownst to Kevin, he first matched with Alex when she was still living in Michigan because she set her profile to Austin in anticipation of her upcoming move. Plans didn’t materialize due to their interstate distance, but little did they know, their story was just beginning. A few months later, Alex reappeared in Kevin’s feed and he excitedly reopened conversation with the pretty Panamanian he thought he lost. Some would say it was destiny! After their second connection, they finally met at an Italian restaurant called Il Brutto. When Alex walked in, her first words to Kevin were “Oh, you are tall!”. Since that night, Kevin and Alex have taken many adventures together in search for the best date night restaurants, dressing up for photoshoot dates, and exploring new cities.
Tell me about the proposal! Kevin had secretly planned to surprise Alex atop Mt. Bonnell and hired a photographer to capture the sunset moment. Despite Kevin’s romantic vision, he hadn’t fully considered the challenge of Alex walking up a rugged path in 5-inch heels. They held hands and carefully stepped over uneven rocks to reach the beautiful lookout point. Trembling and misty eyed, Kevin kneeled and asked in Spanish, “Quieres casarte conmigo?” (Will you marry me?). “Si, mi amor” she happily replied, and then we memorialized the evening with a golden hour photoshoot and celebratory dinner at our special restaurant, Eberly, as a newly engaged couple!
Why did you choose your wedding venue? We wanted a breathtaking outdoor ceremony space and an elegant but modern reception hall and we felt like hidden falls was exactly that. The spanish oak trees and waterfall was the perfect scenery for our ceremony and our guest definitely felt transported to a different place that was not Texas. The indoor reception hall with the big windows and chandelier gave it the classic and elegant look but with a modern twist.
Were there any unique elements you incorporated in your wedding day or decor? I think the flowers added a great pop of color to our formal black and white reception hall look and the fusion of cultures through lion dancers and hora loca/samba dancers made our wedding feel very unique but also so us
What was your most anticipated moment of the day? Our most anticipated moment was a combination of our first look and reading our vows to each other during our wedding ceremony
Any memorable or special moments throughout your wedding day that stick out to you? Definitely the lion dancers/hora loca because of the cultural element, our first dance because I grew up dancing but Kevin didn’t and he did so great! He has learned to dance throughout our relationship so that he could dance with me and dancing has just become something we enjoy to do together even if its just dancing in the kitchen and the first dance was the first time a lot of his family and friends have seen him dancing like that haha. And last but not least our grand exit because honestly it was more fun than I thought it was going to be haha!
