One year ago today, I got the best news a dying-to-be-a-new-mom would get. A second pink line on the pregnancy stick changed my life, and now I can’t imagine my life without this little duckling in it.
In 2014, my husband and I finally made the decision to try to become parents. We decided to keep this decision a secret from family and friends until we were lucky enough to have some great news to share. Month after month I waited anxiously, hoping to get that good news. It wasn’t until a year ago today that we finally get the results we’d been waiting for!
The Story
All that week, I’d been having this gut feeling I was pregnant, even though I had no symptoms. I didn’t feel nauseated or tired. I just…had a feeling. So, that Friday I raced home to take a pregnancy test before Jereme came home from work. He usually came home before I did, so it was amazing it worked out this way. I ran upstairs, and took 5 pregnancy tests. The pregnancy kit tells you to usually wait about 5 minutes before you can see the results. Well, I couldn’t wait! I stared at those sticks, and watched in anticipation hoping an extra line of pink would show up. “Oh my God, oh my God, Oh my God!!” I screamed out loud. I knew it I knew it!! Knowing that Jereme would be home any minute, I ran to grab the onesie I’d bought when we first decided to try for a family- reading (Houston) Rockets -his favorite basketball team- on the front , and Smith 01 on the back 🙂 I wrapped the pregnancy tests in tissue paper and had the onesie wrap those, set those on our bed, and cut out paper arrows leading from our front door, to our bedroom.
Perfect timing…because about 5 minutes after I set the last arrow down, Jereme walked through the door. He usually yells “I’m home!” as soon as he walks through the door, but this time he was silent. I waited and hid, with a huge smile on my face, in our bathroom, hoping to see is reaction. He came up to the bed, and opened the surprise.
Silence.
I’m dying at this point. C’mon, Jereme…say something!!
“Uh honey…are you sure these are positive?” he yelled.
What! His first reaction was ‘Are you sure’? Haha! When I came out of hiding to tell him they were positive, we couldn’t take the smiles off of our faces. We were excited, in disbelief, nervous, ecstatic, and so so so happy.
And this whole time he had no idea I video recorded the whole thing 🙂 Having his reaction and that moment captured for us to watch years from now is priceless to me. I cannot wait til we can show Penelepe the moment her daddy knew he was going to be hers.
