Some of you may know that I’m not originally from this area. Living states away from family and close friends is extremely hard. It’s even harder when you’re trying to build a business without the help and support of those close connections around. Being an artist can sometimes get lonely, isolated, and dare I say…competitive.
When I first started on my road of photography, the industry wasn’t like how it is today. When I would reach out to others in my area, I would get silence. If I asked about second shooting or assisting to learn more, I would get the ‘sorry, I’m too busy’ response. It was very discouraging.
But boy, how things have changed.
To be honest, I wasn’t always a huge fan of living here. Being far from loved ones sucks! But now, I can honestly say I love it. Why?
The COMMUNITY. Community of artists, business owners, dreamers, doers, givers, helpers, motivators. The list goes on.
I came across The Rising Tide Society last year on Facebook from other photographers in the area. Every month, people would join together to discuss different topics such as business practices, contracts, client experience, and more. Since joining Tuesdays Together, I’ve met some amazing and talented individuals. From photographers, artists, event planners, florists, bakers, and lots more! This month’s meeting was all about collaboration. Bethanne Arthur with Bethanne Arthur Photography and Rachel Rice with The One Moment Events came together to plan and style this AH-MAZING dinner for other creatives at the beautiful 48 fields in Leesburg, VA. this past Sunday. With the help of some talented and local vendors, this gorgeous space was transformed into a stunning soiree. I loved seeing familiar faces, finally meeting friends I “know” through social media, and meeting some new ones 🙂 It made my heart so happy chatting with others about our similar passions and just simply hanging out and having a great day. Sunday’s styled dinner was the epitome of community over competition. The people I’ve met along this journey having truly lifted me up, encouraged me, and made me feel like I’m not alone. I’m so grateful for this moment, and so thankful for Bethanne and Rachel for putting together this extraordinary evening!
